About the Role

The Field Service Engineer (Generator Service Engineer) reports to the Service Supervisor for the PowerGen Business Unit and is responsible for day‑to‑day planned preventative maintenance, unplanned reactive maintenance, and scheduled repairs, including replacements, upgrades, or additional works on MTU Kinetic Power Packs (Dynamic Uninterruptible Power Systems) and diesel generators. The role involves travelling around the UK in a company‑provided vehicle, often with overnight stays, requiring a flexible approach to working patterns. Key duties include complying with health and safety legislation, using diagnostic tools to identify faults, compiling technical reports after each job, and performing service, repairs, and commissioning of Dynamic UPS, diesel engines, ancillary equipment and control systems. The engineer also assists project managers with installation, commissioning and testing of new power systems and builds strong relationships with clients and suppliers. • Perform planned preventative maintenance, reactive repairs, and scheduled upgrades on Dynamic UPS and diesel generators. • Travel across the UK (and occasionally overseas) in a company‑provided vehicle, with possible overnight stays. • Provide 24/7 emergency on‑call support as part of a rotation. • Use diagnostic tools to pinpoint faults and produce detailed technical reports after each job. • Service, repair, and commission Dynamic UPS, diesel engines, ancillary equipment, and control systems. • Assist project managers with installation, commissioning, and testing of new power systems. • Develop and maintain professional relationships with clients and suppliers. • Read and interpret mechanical and electrical drawings accurately.

What You Bring

Candidates must have significant field work experience and appropriate Mechanical or Electrical Engineering qualifications, or equivalent industry experience. Knowledge of the power generation sector, particularly Dynamic UPS, diesel or gas genset products, and familiarity with control systems and mechanical/electrical drawings is required. Applicants should be willing to work away from home during the week and travel extensively across the UK, Ireland and overseas territories. The role is part of Rolls‑Royce Power Systems, a business delivering world‑class power solutions through digitalisation and electrification for marine and infrastructure customers. • Hold Mechanical or Electrical Engineering qualifications or equivalent field experience. • Possess strong knowledge of power generation products, including UPS, diesel/gas gensets, and control systems. • Willingness to work away from home and travel extensively throughout the UK, Ireland, and overseas.
