About the Role
Carpenters at BGIS construct, erect, install, maintain and repair structures made of wood, wood substitutes, light steel and other materials. They may be employed by construction firms, carpentry contractors, facility‑maintenance departments, or work as self‑employed professionals serving a variety of institutions. The role involves interpreting technical drawings, preparing accurate layouts, measuring and fabricating components, and installing structural and interior elements such as doors, moldings, staircases and flooring. Carpenters also handle maintenance, renovation, client estimations and may supervise apprentices or laborers as needed. • Interpret blueprints, drawings and sketches to define technical specifications. • Create layout plans using measuring tools while adhering to building codes. • Cut, shape and assemble wood, wood‑substitutes and light‑steel components. • Construct foundations, install floor beams and lay subflooring. • Assemble prefabricated wall and roof sections. • Install built‑in furnishings such as countertops, kitchen cabinets and bathroom vanities. • Maintain, repair and renovate wooden structures across diverse facilities. • Prepare cost estimates for clients when required. • Supervise apprentices and laborers as appropriate.

What You Bring
Essential knowledge includes basic geometry and mathematics for layout design, as well as growing computer‑skill requirements for field software. A valid CCQ Journeyperson Certificate for Carpenter‑Joiner is required. • Fit interior doors, moldings, shelving, staircases, hardwood flooring and hardware.
