About the Role
• Locate and mark reference points on foundations using geometry tools. • Attach rigging or signal crane operator to lift components to specified positions. • Align and assemble boiler frames, tanks, or vats using plumb bobs, levels, wedges, dogs, or turnbuckles. • Hammer, flame‑cut, file, and grind irregular edges to facilitate fitting. • Position drums and headers, then bolt or weld supports to the frame. • Align water tubes and expand ends onto drums and headers with a tube expander. • Perform minor maintenance and cleaning with tools and equipment. • Install manholes, handholds, valves, gauges, and feed‑water connections in drums. • Test assembled vessels by pumping water or gas under pressure and checking for leaks. • Repair boilers or tanks in the field by unbolting, flame‑cutting, straightening plates, installing new tubes, and welding new sections. • Fasten and caulk vessel sections using pneumatic fasteners and caulking hammers. • Line fireboxes with refractory brick and blocks when required. • Fabricate parts such as stacks, uptakes, and chutes to adapt boilers to installation sites. • Apply flame‑cutting techniques and torch operation. • Observe and comply with all safety and project rules. • Apply shop mathematics to solve problems. • Plan work and select proper tools. • Compare size, shape, and form of lines, figures, and objects. • Visualize objects in three dimensions from plans and drawings. • Make decisions based on measurable criteria.

What You Bring
Helpers (0–42 months experience) are expected to have a minimum of six months documented field experience in their craft discipline and be capable of reading and interpreting instructions and documentation. The level and degree of job responsibilities and requirements vary with months of experience and assigned job step. Workers assemble, analyze for defects, and repair boilers, tanks, vats, pressure vessels, and auxiliary equipment according to blueprints, using power and hand tools. Candidates may need a high school diploma or equivalent combined with relevant field experience. They must possess knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures, rely on established guidelines, and work under immediate supervision, typically reporting to a supervisor or manager. The position requires physical strength for standing, walking, lifting up to 50 lb, and pushing or pulling 70 ft‑lb, as well as frequent activities such as climbing, balancing, reaching, and handling tools. Physical tasks are categorized by frequency symbols (O = occasionally, F = frequently, C = constantly) and may include stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and fingering. • Bolt or arc‑weld structures and sections together. • Bolt or weld casing sections, uptakes, stacks, baffles, and fabricated parts such as chutes, air heaters, fan stands, ladders, and safety hatches.
