About the Role

As a Driver Helper, you will team up with a Route Driver to collect waste and recyclable materials from residential and commercial customers. Your role supports the efficient operation of the collection route and ensures that service standards are met. You must adhere to WM Safety and Life Critical Rules, OSHA requirements, and all relevant local, state, and federal laws while on the job. The position involves reporting unsafe conditions and service issues promptly, attending required trainings, loading and emptying containers, operating hoisting equipment, and assisting the driver with backing maneuvers. You will also communicate customer requests and any service interruptions to management and perform scheduled duties, stepping in to help other drivers as needed. Drivers and operators are expected to operate vehicles and equipment safely and reliably at all times. • Follow WM safety, OSHA, and all applicable laws while on the route. • Report unsafe conditions, incidents, accidents, or property damage to the Operations Manager or Dispatch immediately. • Attend all required training sessions, briefings, and meetings. • Load and empty residential or commercial containers manually or mechanically into the truck. • Operate the hoisting device to lift bins and empty them into the truck hopper. • Assist the driver with backing maneuvers and other vehicle operations. • Communicate customer requests and service interruptions to the Operations Manager or Dispatch. • Perform scheduled duties and assist other drivers as directed to meet customer needs.
