About the Role

Core responsibilities in overhead powerline construction involve safely working on energized and de‑energized lines, inspecting and using personal protective equipment, stringing overhead wire, setting poles and anchors, and assisting with the installation of transformers, arrestors, cutouts, cross‑arms, insulators, switches, and switchgear. Groundmen also replace fuses, clear faulted circuits, perform basic voltage checks, and maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools. • Secure personal and team safety. • Assist line‑workers in meeting project objectives. • Participate in storm restoration efforts. • Operate vehicles and equipment professionally. • Continue technical and leadership training. • Inspect and maintain PPE and rubber goods. • String overhead wire and set poles/anchors. • Install transformers, arrestors, cutouts, cross‑arms, insulators, switches, and switchgear. • Replace fuses, clear faulted circuits, and perform basic voltage checks. • Conduct basic bucket rescue/escape procedures. • Maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools. • Follow radio communication protocols. • Climb and work on wood or steel structures.

What You Bring

The position requires meeting typical physical demands of powerline construction, such as standing, walking, climbing wood or steel structures, lifting up to 50 lb or more, and performing rigorous manual labor while using hand tools. Workers must have adequate vision (close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception) and be able to work outdoors in diverse weather conditions, often exposed to fumes, noise, and vibration. General expectations include obtaining a Commercial Driver’s License permit within 60 days, effective communication skills, the ability to travel on short notice, and willingness to work extended hours, weekends, holidays, and overtime. Employees must also adhere to safety rules, company policies, and maintain a customer‑service focus. Safety and competency are emphasized through team‑oriented, self‑motivated behavior, ethical conduct, and adherence to established safety protocols. Workers must understand proper use of radios, basic rigging, hand‑line work, knot tying, bucket rescue procedures, and minimum approach distances, as well as possess basic knowledge of line‑work materials and voltage identification. • Perform basic rigging, hand‑line work, and knot‑tying. • Work at heights, in confined spaces, and in inclement weather.
