About the Role
All driving activities must follow WM Safety and Life‑Critical Rules, OSHA and DOT requirements, as well as local, state and federal laws. Drivers complete pre‑ and post‑trip vehicle inspections, document findings on a Driver Vehicle Inspection Report, and report any unsafe conditions, incidents, accidents or service interruptions to the Operations Manager or Dispatch. They attend scheduled training, briefings and meetings, work with managers to improve route efficiency, and communicate customer requests. At the end of each shift, drivers finalize route assignments, submit documentation, and may assist fellow drivers to meet customer needs. • Operate vehicle in compliance with WM safety rules, OSHA and DOT regulations. • Perform pre‑ and post‑trip inspections and complete DVIR documentation. • Immediately report unsafe conditions, incidents, accidents or service interruptions to manager or dispatch. • Attend all required training, briefings and meetings. • Collaborate with Operations Manager to improve route efficiency and share best practices. • Communicate customer requests and ensure receptacles are emptied and site left clean. • Follow assigned routes, complete end‑of‑day paperwork and assist fellow drivers as needed.

What You Bring
Drivers operate heavy‑duty trucks equipped with front, side or rear‑end load lift attachments, transporting waste or recyclables to disposal, transfer or recycling facilities once the legal load capacity is reached. Commercial drivers pick up containers that can exceed 1,000 lb and must maneuver them into staging areas, while residential drivers collect household waste in dense neighborhoods. Roll‑off drivers load and haul large open‑top or compactor containers and may work in tight overhead industrial environments. All driver types require highly skilled backing maneuvers on congested roadways, driveways, alleyways and lots. Candidates must hold a valid Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License with an air‑brake endorsement, be at least 18 years old, and be legally authorized to work in the United States or Canada. At least one year of commercial driving experience—or equivalent recent military driving experience within the past seven years—is required. A high school diploma or GED is preferred but not mandatory. The role involves regular physical activity such as standing, walking, lifting, pushing, pulling, crouching, reaching, handling and sitting, as outlined in the physical‑requirements section.
