About the Role

The estimator prepares detailed estimates for electrical, technology, and low‑voltage (LV) system trades based on design documents, narratives, and specifications, covering conceptual design through construction documents. • Communicate electrical estimates and scopes to Turner staff, architects, engineers, and owners. • Prepare quantity take‑offs, analyses, estimates, and studies for Electrical, Technology, and LV items from conceptual design to construction documents. • Analyze existing site conditions and contract documents to identify required scope not indicated. • Develop relationships with local material suppliers and equipment vendors to obtain accurate pricing for lighting, distribution, and low‑voltage equipment. • Build and maintain a qualified bidder list of Electrical, Technology, and LV trade partners. • Perform constructability analysis and relay design/constructability issues to the project team. • Provide first‑cost and life‑cycle cost analysis in collaboration with the design team. • Coordinate with operations staff and fellow estimators to include GC/GR items such as temporary heating/cooling and construction power consumption. • Coordinate equipment pricing with Turner Logistics for Electrical, Technology, and LV estimates. • Conduct value analysis to propose cost‑efficient alternatives for systems, materials, and equipment. • Serve as liaison with engineers, design consultants, trade partners, Turner staff, and owners to resolve cost‑efficient solutions during preconstruction. • Prepare estimates and proposals for various contract types (lump sum, GMP, Cost‑Plus). • Participate in estimate reviews with design team and client and in hand‑off to operations. • Author scope requisitions for bidding/procurement and coordinate with estimators to eliminate gaps. • Evaluate subcontractor proposals, assess scope coverage, and manage risk of gaps. • Assist project staff in evaluating large change orders. • Gather and analyze bid data, maintain historical cost database using Turner breakdown sheets. • Utilize quantification and cost‑estimating software/tools. • May supervise assistant MEP estimators, estimating assistants, and interns.

What You Bring

The position is based in the Austin Main division, located at Austin, TX 78731, USA. It is a regular, experienced, salaried exempt role within the Construction job family, reporting to the Preconstruction Manager/MEP Manager. The role requires frequent sitting, computer work, occasional travel and onsite visits, and the ability to lift up to 15 lb regularly and 50 lb occasionally. Work is performed in office/remote settings and occasionally at construction sites with exposure to noise, mechanical hazards, weather, and electrical risks, while following safety policies. Candidates need a bachelor’s degree in engineering (or equivalent experience) and at least three years of related estimating experience, knowledge of electrical, technology, and LV systems, strong critical‑thinking, communication, and computer skills, and supervisory experience is desired.
