About the Role

The engineer will lead the design of electrical systems for renewable generation, energy storage, electric vehicle charging, building electrical, and battery storage projects. Responsibilities include creating design documents, electrical layouts, schematics, calculations, one‑line diagrams, and preparing specifications, cost estimates, and proposals while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams across Kimley‑Horn offices. • Lead design of electrical systems for renewable generation, energy storage, EV charging, and building projects. • Develop electrical layouts, schematics, block diagrams, system calculations, and one‑line diagrams. • Prepare project specifications, construction cost estimates, and proposals. • Collaborate daily with multidisciplinary teams across Kimley‑Horn offices. • Mentor and train junior staff to expand the Renewable Energy practice.

What You Bring

Kimley-Horn's Sacramento office is seeking an Electrical Engineer with over four years of experience to join its Renewable Energy team. This on‑site role offers the opportunity to work directly within a collaborative engineering environment. Candidates must have at least four years of electrical engineering experience, a Professional Engineering (PE) license or the ability to obtain one within twelve months, and a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering. A solid understanding of the National Electrical Code, National Electrical Safety Code, IEEE, and ANSI standards, as well as willingness to travel for site visits and client meetings, is required. Preferred qualifications include experience with utility‑scale photovoltaic, wind, MEP, HVAC, microgrid, substation, or data‑center designs, as well as project management skills. Proficiency in AutoCAD, power system analysis tools (such as SKM or ETAP), transient study software (like PSCAD or EMTP‑RV), lighting design programs (e.g., AGI32), and programming in Python or MATLAB is also valued. • 4+ years of electrical engineering experience with a PE license (or ability to obtain within 12 months). • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and knowledge of NEC, NESC, IEEE, and ANSI standards. • Willingness to travel for site visits and client meetings as needed. • Preferred: utility‑scale PV, wind, MEP, HVAC, microgrid, substation, or data‑center design experience. • Preferred: project management, AutoCAD, power system analysis (SKM/ETAP), transient studies (PSCAD/EMTP‑RV), lighting design (AGI32), Python or MATLAB programming.
