About the Role
The manager identifies organizational issues, develops and implements people‑focused action plans, and coordinates all necessary resources for HR initiatives. Responsibilities include succession planning, learning and development, diversity and inclusion, and delivering measurable HR solutions aligned with business objectives. The role also partners with Centers of Expertise to execute strategies, leads or participates in HR projects, and provides coaching and advisory support to managers on employee‑relation matters. Leadership duties encompass hiring, developing, and coaching members of the People organization, preparing high‑impact written and oral presentations, and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws. The manager also oversees employee orientation, separation processes, exit interviews, and training on policies, while contributing to budget analysis and process‑improvement initiatives. This position supervises People Advisors and other support staff, with direct responsibility for at least one full‑time employee. What You Bring
As a member of Waste Management's HR organization, the HR Manager provides strategic people solutions and tactical support to managers across the South Atlantic footprint. The role supports roughly 520 employees at 20 sites in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia, requiring 40‑50% travel and is based in Charlotte, NC. Experience with both union and non‑union workforces, M&A, and the WM Healthcare Solutions acquisition is essential. Required qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in a related field (or high school diploma with four years of relevant experience) and at least five years managing HR systems, processes, and professionals. Preferred credentials are SPHR certification and experience in talent management, labor relations, and multi‑disciplinary HR functions. Candidates must demonstrate strategic thinking, strong analytical and communication skills, and the capacity to drive change and make tough decisions professionally. • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial/Labor Relations, HR, Psychology, or related field (or HS diploma + 4 yr experience) • Minimum five years of experience managing HR systems, processes, and professionals • SPHR certification preferred • Strong knowledge of core HR disciplines: staffing, employee relations, performance management, leadership development, training • Ability to think strategically and translate concepts into actionable plans • Consultative style with proven credibility with business partners • Strong analytical and diagnostic skills using data analytics for HR insights • Experience in talent management, succession planning, and labor relations • Innovative mindset to develop unique solutions to work problems • Excellent verbal and written communication, presentation, and influencing skills • Ability to manage multiple projects independently with minimal supervision
