About the Role

The Automation Engineer (AE) partners with the site maintenance team to ensure optimal performance of Material Handling Equipment (MHE) control systems. The role involves troubleshooting and maintaining a variety of equipment, including conveyors, sortation systems, scanners, cameras, labeling systems, scales, HMIs, and control cabinets, within a modern, climate‑controlled facility. The AE also implements solutions for complex problems, tracks related projects, and may lead or mentor other technicians. • Promote safety by adhering to all safety procedures. • Guide maintenance of material handling control systems, industrial motor drives, and electrical distribution. • Troubleshoot and modify PLC/PC control software (Allen Bradley ControlLogix/CompactLogix) using Rockwell tools and industrial networks (Ethernet, ControlNet, DeviceNet, Profibus, AS‑I). • Serve as first‑level escalation for automation issues, coordinating with vendors and support teams to restore equipment. • Analyze MHE metrics, collaborate with technicians to resolve electrical problems, and conduct control system assessments to improve reliability. • Partner with operations leadership, vendors, and suppliers to plan and implement new technology installations and capital projects. • Communicate technical issues, project timelines, and production impacts to building leadership and maintenance teams.

What You Bring

Physical demands include reaching overhead, kneeling, squatting, climbing ladders, using aerial lifts, and lifting up to 50 lb, while wearing required PPE. The work environment is a warehouse with fluctuating temperatures, requiring regular movement between departments and floors, averaging 6–12 miles of travel per day. • Possess 3+ years of experience or relevant degree in programming/commissioning HMIs, PLCs, VFDs, SCADA systems, and interpreting mechanical/electrical drawings. • Demonstrate hands‑on experience with conveyors, sortation systems, and equipment control components (relays, motor starters, VFDs, HMIs). • Hold a high school diploma or equivalent; positive attitude and strong problem‑solving skills. • Preferred: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in electronic/STEM fields, 4+ years in electrical or control systems development, leadership and project management experience.
