About the Role

• Design MV/LV distribution and substation projects, including transformers, switchgear, and protection/control schemes. • Conduct power system modeling and studies (load flow, short circuit, coordination) using ETAP, SKM, or CYME. • Design overhead and underground distribution systems, specifying poles, conductors, transformers, and protective devices. • Develop and implement relay settings with tools such as SEL AcSELerator, GE Enervista, or ASPEN. • Troubleshoot relay, SCADA, and recloser protection issues in coordination with field teams. • Provide technical support for BESS design and grid integration. • Coordinate equipment procurement and installation with vendors and construction crews. • Prepare complete construction packages, including one‑line diagrams, plans, profiles, and specifications. • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including civil engineers, to ensure project success. • Mentor junior engineers and promote knowledge‑sharing within the team.

NV5 is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer for its Walnut Creek, CA office, with hybrid or remote flexibility after an initial training period. The role focuses on modernizing power delivery infrastructure for utilities, municipalities, and private clients across the United States. • Hold a BS in Electrical Engineering (or related field); EIT required, PE preferred. • Minimum 5 years experience in utility, consulting, or substation design engineering. • Proficient in relay settings and programming using major manufacturer software (SEL, GE). • Experienced with power system modeling software (ETAP, SKM, CYME, ASPEN). • Familiarity with SCADA integration and communications protocols is a plus. • Knowledge of civil and structural aspects of substation design is beneficial.
