About the Role
• Apply standard engineering techniques and procedures • Perform assignments under direct supervision of a professional or Project Manager • Conduct supervised design calculations and element design for steel, concrete, mass timber, and masonry structures • Produce sketches and drawings to communicate design concepts • Review and interpret documents to support construction activities • Participate in field reviews or investigations to support construction activities • Prepare field reports based on onsite observations

What You Bring
HDR is seeking dynamic and eager‑to‑learn engineering students for a four‑ or eight‑month placement at our downtown Toronto office. The successful candidate will work on a variety of projects associated with building structural systems for both building and non‑building structures, often concurrently and at different design and construction stages. This diverse array of projects provides excellent opportunities to learn about all aspects of the building engineering industry. • 2 years completed toward degree with 3.0+ GPA • Independent learner capable of quickly acquiring new skills • Proven ability to work successfully in a team environment • Keen observer with strong attention to detail • Skilled in CAD software such as Revit, AutoCAD, and Bluebeam Revu • Proficient in structural analysis programs like SAP2000, ETABS, SAFE, RESA3D, RAM, etc. • Knowledge of engineering principles for steel, concrete, and masonry structural systems • Past experience working with an engineering firm • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate engineering program • Strong attention to detail • Excellent problem‑solving and communication skills • Basic Microsoft Office proficiency
