About the Role

Your Opportunity. The Electrical Drafter – Substations & Transmission is responsible for running a team of skilled and experienced digital engineers and designers within the Energy team in VIC. The role has the dual functionality of leading outstanding technical outcomes for our clients and growing and shaping a high‑performing team. You would be responsible for influencing, implementing, and advising our clients to help them design, deliver, operate, and maintain outstanding infrastructure. In this role you’ll be actively involved in strategic roles on our most significant projects and programs and win and deliver work for you and your team. • Develop and maintain 2D and 3D electrical drawings for substations and transmission infrastructure, including general arrangements, layouts, schematics, wiring, and earthing drawings. • Convert engineer mark‑ups and specifications into clear, accurate, constructible design documentation. • Ensure all drawings comply with project, client, and industry standards (AS2067, AS3000, utility specifications). • Coordinate with engineers, designers, and other drafters to maintain consistency and integration across disciplines. • Manage drawing registers, version control, and adhere to Mott MacDonald’s quality systems and CAD standards. • Support design reviews and contribute to improvements in constructability, safety, and efficiency. • Contribute ideas and feedback to continually improve drafting workflows and digital delivery practices within the team.

What You Bring

We are looking for a candidate with 3 + years’ experience in electrical drafting, ideally in substations, transmission lines, or distribution networks. The ideal applicant has working knowledge of AutoCAD and/or MicroStation (Bentley Substation or equivalent exposure advantageous). A strong understanding of substation layouts, cable routing, protection and control, and earthing design principles is required. The role requires the ability to interpret and deliver from single‑line diagrams and protection/control schematics with minimal supervision and to produce high‑quality, consistent, and accurate drawings under project timelines. • Minimum 3 + years’ experience in electrical drafting, preferably in substations, transmission lines, or distribution networks. • Proficient with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation (Bentley Substation exposure advantageous). • Strong knowledge of substation layouts, cable routing, protection and control, and earthing design principles. • Ability to interpret and produce drawings from single‑line diagrams and protection/control schematics with minimal supervision. • Demonstrated capability to deliver high‑quality, consistent, accurate drawings within project timelines.
