About the Role

The Senior Traffic Project Manager / Lead role in Denver will head the traffic engineering team, manage projects ranging from small to large scale, and deliver traffic analysis and design services. Responsibilities include project and task management, technical leadership, and close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to meet client needs across all travel modes. • Deliver traffic engineering services across Colorado, coordinating with roadway, structural, and transit designers, planners, and architects. • Lead and mentor a growing team of mid‑level and junior engineers on standalone traffic projects and traffic tasks within larger initiatives. • Provide day‑to‑day guidance to engineers in executing their tasks. • Conduct or oversee all aspects of traffic studies, including data collection, microsimulation model development and calibration (e.g., Synchro, HCS, Vistro, Sidra), forecasting, and alternatives analysis. • Present technical findings to internal teams, clients, and the public. • Prepare technical memoranda and reports with text, graphics, and tables. • Perform quality control on engineers’ work following AECOM and client processes. • Coordinate workload projections for direct reports and collaborate with other discipline leads in Colorado and neighboring states for work‑share opportunities. • Participate in business development: identify project opportunities, market to clients, make technical presentations, assist proposal preparation, and support recruiting. • Collaborate with statewide traffic engineering leads to coordinate business activities and project delivery across the US West region. • Support direct reports in setting and achieving professional development goals. • Assist project managers with scopes of work, cost estimates, and schedules. • Propose innovative approaches and efficiencies by modifying standard procedures. • Contribute to growing the Denver traffic team. • Ensure work is performed within agreed budget and schedule.

What You Bring

• BA/BS degree with 10+ years of relevant experience or equivalent education. • 15+ years of traffic engineering experience, including projects in Colorado. • Experience supporting business development and preparing proposals. • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Colorado or ability to obtain within six months. • Familiarity with agencies such as CDOT, RTD, DOTI, DEN, DRCOG, and local jurisdictions. • Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) certification. • Advanced proficiency with Synchro/SimTraffic, VISSIM, and HCS, including calibration and validation. • Expertise in traffic safety analysis (Highway Safety Manual, signal warrants, pedestrian crossing control, signing, and pavement marking design). • Experience with MicroStation or similar CAD tools. • Knowledge of traditional four‑step and activity‑based travel demand models. • Strong project management and staff oversight skills. • Ability to integrate traffic engineering with highway, bridge, and transit design teams. • Experience working with Metropolitan Planning Organizations on traffic projections. • Proven mentorship of interns or junior staff. • Excellent client presentation and communication skills. • Proficiency with Highway Capacity Manual, HSM, MUTCD, FHWA Traffic Analysis Toolkit, and Microsoft Office. • Effective verbal and written communication abilities.
