About the Role

• Work with internal/external customers, OEMs and consultants to identify solutions and complete early feasibility and concept studies, including technology, capacity, efficiency, emissions, interconnections, capex, schedule, regulatory and risk screening to support business case. • Manage and coordinate OEMs and contractors to ensure aligned deliverables. • Propose mitigation strategies to overcome project development challenges. • Complete early‑stage technical design. • Support development team with early‑stage estimates, schedules and project management. • Coordinate between project team, operations and development to ensure alignment of project goals. • Support execution of design and construction phases of power generation projects. • Review designs, specifications, construction plans and commissioning documentation. • Assist project managers with technical tasks, schedule reviews, and consultant/contractor work reviews. • Help plan, estimate and schedule related project deliverables as needed. • Manage technical scope of work using internal resources and supervising external consultants. • Recommend equipment selection, new concepts, and techniques to improve performance, reduce cost, and ensure compliance with codes and regulations; provide conceptual design and cost information. • Consult with internal teams and external engineering and construction consultants. • Coordinate with development and operations teams to ensure compliance obligations are met throughout project stages. • Support corporate development with technical reviews or assessments of potential acquisitions. • Lead external independent engineering reviews of acquisitions. • Review technical reports, data and models. • Conduct risk assessments. • Promote a strong safety culture by integrating health and safety considerations into all activities. • Collaborate with Health & Safety teams to ensure project activities comply with regulations and standards. • Participate in hazard identification, risk assessments and incident investigations related to physical assets as needed.

What You Bring

The Senior Project Engineer reports to the Manager, Major Projects and supports power‑generation projects (gas, wind, solar, battery) in Alberta and North America. The role focuses on executing project design and construction, driving continuous improvement, ensuring regulatory compliance, reviewing engineering documents and conducting site visits. Interaction with internal and external stakeholders at all levels requires strong interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills, as well as a customer‑service mindset and effective prioritisation of resources. Travel to field locations is required. Candidates must hold a Mechanical, Civil or Electrical Engineering degree and have extensive experience in power‑generation projects in Alberta. Final candidates will undergo a security‑clearance check. ATCO is an Equal Opportunity Employer and will consider all qualified applicants without regard to protected characteristics. • Degree in Mechanical, Civil or Electrical Engineering with project engineering experience. • Experience in medium to large scale (>20 MW) gas‑fired and renewable generation development, including design, planning, construction, and knowledge of construction contracting strategies. • Proficient knowledge of regulatory requirements for power generation project development. • Minimum 10 years of experience on power generation projects in Alberta. • Project engineering and management experience preparing scopes of work, execution plans, cost estimates, schedules and managing budgets. • Experience with GT Pro/GT Master software. • Experience with PVSyst software. • Experience in power generation project development and approvals (planning, engagement, permitting, environment, historical resources) with strong understanding of Alberta regulatory requirements (Alberta Utilities Commission, Alberta Environment and Parks, etc.). • Strong team player capable of working independently and collaboratively with peers and leadership. • Ability to manage critical deadlines and conflicting priorities in a fast‑paced environment. • Knowledge of assessing project constructability and constraints analysis.
