About the Role

The Underground Equipment Operator is an entry‑level role focused on the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical underground distribution systems. The position works at various locations and may require travel to another state depending on customer demands. • Assist with installing underground transformers. • Assist in replacing fuses in transformers and clear faulted circuits and systems. • Frequently work around energized high‑voltage systems, protecting lives. • Maintain company vehicles, equipment and tools in good working order. • Operate heavy equipment safely. • Use and maintain hand tools properly. • Identify primary and secondary voltage on a circuit. • Assist with installation and hookup of a single‑phase transformer. • Observe minimum approach distance requirements. • Check voltage on transformers. • Follow flag and tag procedures. • Install and remove a service. • Inspect rubber goods and PPE properly. • Wear personal protective equipment as needed. • Identify different types of materials used. • Travel long distances on short notice when required. • Inspect rubber goods and PPE properly. • Work outside normal schedules, including weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed. • Follow company safety rules and all other company policies.

What You Bring

The job involves regular communication, frequent standing, walking, and manual handling, with the need to lift over 50 lb. Employees are often exposed to fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, vibration, loud noise, and varying weather conditions at construction sites. • Work safely while performing new construction, maintenance or repair work of energized and de‑energized underground. • Perform rigorous physical labor. • Understand proper use of company radio. • Understand basic rigging. • Receive and follow directions effectively. • Learn basic knowledge of materials used. • Possess a basic knowledge of materials used. • Be familiar with induced voltage. • Understand basic concepts of equipment set‑up and grounding. • Work at heights and/or confined spaces when required. • Use Kellum grips correctly. • Wear gloves and work live high‑voltage distribution lines when necessary. • Have a minimum of five years recent field experience. • Read and communicate effectively in English. • Obtain a Commercial Driver’s License permit within 60 days of employment. • Possess a Commercial Driver’s License (preferred). • Lift in excess of 50 lb. • Self‑motivated.
