About the Role

The Lead Area Manager (LAM) is responsible for delivering results across Environment and Safety, Productivity, Customer Delivery, People Development, and Quality within a department of roughly 400 direct and indirect employees, including production, maintenance, and salaried staff. The role reports to Executive Managers and acts as the primary customer‑supplier interface for the department’s horizontal help chain, ensuring material flow is balanced across Davenport Works. The LAM’s accountability is continuous, operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Quality performance is advanced by aligning the department with the plant‑wide quality policy and preparing for both internal and third‑party audits. Financial stewardship includes monitoring expenses, controlling costs, and contributing to the development and execution of the annual budget to meet monthly appropriations. The LAM also mentors Area Managers and Group Leaders, setting and reviewing development and performance objectives while overseeing Metallurgical and Engineering resources. Large‑scale capital projects are overseen by the LAM, who ensures timely execution, budget adherence, and coordination among multiple teams. Successful project delivery positions the business for future growth through commissioning and transition to normal operations. Throughout, the LAM maintains day‑to‑day operations while driving continuous improvement across all focus areas. • Account for results in EHS, productivity, delivery, people development, and quality using ABS tools (TPM, 5S, daily management). • Lead a department of ~400 employees (production, maintenance, salaried) with 24/7 responsibility. • Serve as primary customer/supplier liaison in the horizontal help chain and balance material flow across Davenport Works. • Promote safety culture via Human Performance tools and lead safety, Kaizen, and TPM events. • Develop and execute 30‑60‑90 day plans and maintain the daily management board for departmental objectives. • Drive quality improvements and ensure readiness for internal and third‑party audits. • Monitor department expenses, control costs, and contribute to annual budget and monthly appropriations. • Coach and mentor Area Managers, set and review development and performance goals for Group Leaders, and manage Metallurgical and Engineering resources. • Oversee large‑scale capital projects, ensuring on‑time delivery, budget compliance, and successful commissioning.
