About the Role
The position supports chemistry operations across Xcel Energy’s generating facilities, regional analytical laboratories, and other business units. Expertise is needed in areas such as analytical instrumentation, water treatment chemistry, boiler system chemistry, lubricants, environmental sampling/compliance, and various analytical testing, while helping to enhance availability, reliability, and low operating costs. Key duties include conducting chemistry analyses according to documented procedures and QA/QC protocols, preparing samples and reagents, maintaining analytical records, performing data entry and interpretation, generating technical reports, managing inventory, and ensuring proper housekeeping. The role also involves operating and calibrating equipment, supporting instrumentation management, providing recommendations based on results, assisting with root‑cause analysis and corrective actions, training plant and chemistry personnel, reviewing process parameters for control‑limit compliance, designing chemistry procedures, assisting with budgeting, and participating in process improvements and new technology development. • Conduct chemistry analyses following documented procedures and QA/QC protocols. • Prepare samples, standards, reagents, and maintain analytical records. • Operate, monitor, calibrate, and maintain analytical instrumentation. • Generate technical reports and provide recommendations based on analytical results. • Perform root‑cause analysis, implement corrective actions, and train personnel. • Review process parameters for control‑limit compliance and adjust as needed. • Design and develop chemistry procedures to improve asset availability and reliability. • Assist with budgeting, process improvements, and new technology development. • Ensure compliance with internal regulatory groups and external agencies.

What You Bring
Minimum qualifications are a BA/BS in chemistry, engineering, applied science, or a related field with four years of progressively responsible experience, or equivalent military training and six years of laboratory or plant chemistry experience. Advanced degrees may substitute for experience: MS/MA/MBA for two years, PhD/J.D. for three years. Preferred candidates have prior experience with oil or environmental test methods and analytical instrumentation and enjoy teamwork. • Minimum: BA/BS in chemistry or related field plus 4 years experience (or equivalent military/experience). • Preferred: experience with oil and environmental test methods and analytical instrumentation.
