About the Role
The role involves performing independent and moderately complex inspections of roadways, structures, ITS and fiber‑optic networks, as well as supervising routine inspections, ensuring compliance with contracts, specifications and engineering plans. Additional duties include inspecting asphalt and concrete materials, evaluating pavement placement and compaction, reviewing structural operations such as foundation excavation and steel reinforcement, and conducting calculations, documentation and field measurements required for contract pay items. The inspector may also participate in concept meetings, field plan reviews, CPM schedule reviews, and project close‑out activities, and must be willing to travel statewide with occasional overnight stays. • Perform independent complex inspections of roadways, structures, ITS and fiber‑optic networks. • Supervise routine inspections and guide other inspectors. • Inspect asphalt, concrete, and pavement for material quality, placement, alignment and compaction. • Evaluate structural operations such as foundation excavation, piling, reinforcing steel, and backfill. • Conduct calculations, contract documentation, and field measurements for pay items. • Participate in concept meetings, field plan reviews, CPM schedule reviews and project close‑out. • Travel statewide with occasional overnight stays.

What You Bring
Candidates must hold a high school diploma, have at least seven years of relevant experience, and possess strong knowledge of highway construction materials, methods, geometry and trigonometry, as well as the ability to read and interpret plans, specifications and inspection procedures. Required certifications include passing GDOT Engineering Skills Development tests (Group 1 and Group 2) within six months of hire, GDOT WECS, GDOT Field Concrete Technician, and GSWCC Level 1a erosion‑control certification, plus a valid Georgia driver’s license. • Minimum of a high school diploma and 7 years of relevant experience. • Proficient in highway construction materials, methods, geometry and trigonometry. • Able to read, interpret and explain construction plans, specifications and inspection procedures. • Hold a valid Georgia driver’s license and possess strong oral and written communication skills. • Obtain GDOT Engineering Skills Development test scores (Group 1 & 2), GDOT WECS, Field Concrete Technician and GSWCC Level 1a certifications within six months of hire.
