About the Role
The Journeyman Electrician I position involves installing, repairing, and maintaining electrical wiring, conduit, equipment, and fixtures in an industrial environment. Work includes both underground and above‑ground cable and conduit installations, as well as leading less‑skilled electricians to ensure safety. The role requires strict adherence to Zachry and site‑specific safety rules, following directions from senior supervisors, and compliance with Lock, Tag and Try procedures for the Sweeny Refinery. The electrician will inspect work areas for hazards, participate in ZCAP, perform tool inspections, safely use a variety of hand and power tools, examine blueprints, and install conduit, cable trays, and temporary power systems according to NFPA 70 (NEC 2014). Additional responsibilities include testing and certifying electrical equipment, ensuring proper grounding and bonding, terminating wires to various devices, observing all applicable building and electrical codes, and leading Safety Task Assessment meetings. The position also demands strong mathematical skills, organization, effective communication, teamwork, and a commitment to Zachry’s safety culture. • Read and interpret prints, drawings, schematics, and plans. • Comply with all Zachry and site‑specific safety rules, overseeing co‑workers for compliance. • Follow directions from Multi‑Craft Electrician, Foreman, Superintendent, or Project Manager. • Follow Lock, Tag and Try procedures for the Sweeny Refinery and related facilities, supervising co‑workers. • Inspect designated work areas for hazards. • Participate in and complete the Zachry Craft Advancement Program (ZCAP) for Electricians. • Perform detailed inspections of hand and power tools for safe operation. • Use hand and power tools (conduit benders, screwdrivers, pliers, etc.) safely, supervising co‑workers. • Examine blueprints and specifications to locate circuits, outlets, panels, and components. • Carry, cut, bend, connect, and install conduit per NFPA 70 (NEC 2014), supervising co‑workers. • Pull cables and conductors through specified pathways per NFPA 70 (NEC 2014), supervising co‑workers. • Modify, fabricate, and install cable trays as defined by NFPA 70 (NEC 2014), supervising co‑workers. • Operate testing equipment (clamp meters, ohmmeters, voltmeters, harmonics testers) to validate circuits, supervising co‑workers. • Inspect and test electrical equipment to certify safe operation, supervising co‑workers. • Install and maintain temporary power and distribution systems per NFPA 70 (NEC 2014), directly supervising co‑workers. • Install and maintain equipment grounding and bonding, supervising co‑workers. • Terminate wires/cables to outlets, switches, breakers, control panels, and distribution systems, supervising co‑workers. • Observe all state and local building/electrical codes. • Lead Safety Task Assessment (STA) meetings. • Apply mathematics to validate installations per NEC 2014. • Actively listen and make sound decisions. • Provide customer‑service oriented support. • Work in all weather conditions, varying elevations, with moderate to high noise and equipment presence. • Maintain a drug‑free workplace and equal‑opportunity employment as per Zachry policy.

What You Bring
Candidates must hold a Texas DLR Journeyman or Master Electrician license, NCCER Industrial Electrician certification, or have completed the Zachry Craft Advancement Program (ZCAP) Journeyman qualification. They must be able to read and interpret engineering prints, have thorough knowledge of hand and power tools, possess required tools, and be capable of working at heights up to 300 ft while meeting physical and pre‑employment requirements. Physical demands involve extensive standing, walking, bending, lifting up to 25 lb, and occasional work at heights while wearing required PPE. The work environment includes all weather conditions, varying elevations, moderate to high noise, and the presence of heavy equipment. Required certifications include Texas DLR Journeyman or Master Electrician licenses, NCCER Industrial Electrician certification, or ZCAP qualification, along with a clean motor‑vehicle record and applicable apprenticeship license.
