About the Role
The Senior ITS/Traffic Engineer will join AECOM’s New Jersey team to lead innovative transportation solutions. In collaboration with the project manager, the role involves research, design development, and ensuring successful delivery of complex ITS and traffic engineering projects that enhance mobility, safety, and efficiency across transportation networks. • Lead planning, design, and deployment of ITS, traffic signal systems, and connected vehicle technologies. • Develop traffic engineering studies, including signal optimization, corridor analysis, and congestion management strategies. • Design traffic signals, roadway signage, pavement markings, and intersection improvements per NJTA, NJDOT, and MUTCD standards. • Oversee integration of ITS hardware/software, traffic management centers, and emerging technologies. • Prepare technical reports, specifications, and cost estimates. • Collaborate with agencies such as NJDOT, NJTA, MPOs, and local municipalities on statewide and regional projects. • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance. • Ensure compliance with industry standards (MUTCD, NTCIP, AASHTO) and applicable regulations. • Participate in professional organizations and attend industry events. • Travel occasionally to the NYC office and to the Piscataway, NJ office or client locations for meetings.

What You Bring
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Electrical Engineering (or related) with 6+ years of traffic modeling, signal design, and traffic engineering experience, or equivalent. • Proficiency in traffic analysis software (Synchro, VISSIM, HCS) and CAD/MicroStation. • Valid U.S. driver’s license. • Preferred: 8+ years of traffic engineering and ITS experience, NJ PE license (PTOE a plus), and strong MicroStation skills. • Experience designing signals, signage, and pavement markings following NJTA, NJDOT, and MUTCD standards, and familiarity with related guidelines.

The role offers a hybrid work model in Piscataway, NJ, with a compensation range of $125,000 to $170,000 annually, and occasional travel to the NYC office and client sites.
