About the Role
Role Summary: The Carpenter 2 will be responsible for performing complex carpentry tasks in one or more areas of concrete carpentry and reinforcement or finish carpentry on a variety of construction projects, including new construction, renovations, and other project types. Carpenters utilize a variety of tools and specialized equipment. Duties may include concrete carpentry and reinforcement, and finish carpentry. Role responsibilities vary by project, but all activities support JE Dunn’s strategy, vision, and values. • Set forms for foundations, slabs on grade (SOG), and bulkheads. • Place concrete using bucket, chute, pump, and follow placement procedures. • Finish concrete surfaces with floats and trowels. • Maintain and clean concrete and forming tools. • Perform basic framing or forming tasks. • Install in‑wall and roof blocking, safety railings, floor openings, and other safety items. • Erect temporary partitions and doors; assist with door, frame, and hardware installation. • Ensure PPE compliance and follow OSHA and JE Dunn safety standards. • Place rebar according to plans and specifications. • Perform layout activities related to concrete tasks. • Apply advanced formwork systems for columns and walls. • Install PT accessories, cables, chairs, reinforcing, and blocking. • Execute advanced placement and finishing of concrete flatwork. • Identify and interpret construction details for concrete carpentry. • Install casework, countertops, trim, wood paneling, doors, hardware, and accessories with quality. • Interpret construction details for finish carpentry.

The position reports to a supervisor, follows directions, and refers all exceptions to the supervisor. The career path advances to Carpenter 3. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: The carpenter must accurately and timely perform work, communicate effectively, understand trade specifics, own required hand tools, apply layout and construction math, set concrete forms, work with minimal guidance, provide excellent customer service, and collaborate within teams. Education and Experience: A high school diploma or GED is preferred, along with apprentice or vocational training; equivalent experience may be considered. At least 2 years of trade experience is required, with 2+ years of commercial construction experience preferred. Working Environment: The role requires lifting at least 50 pounds, exposure to extreme conditions, willingness to work non‑traditional hours, reliable transportation, possible respirator use, and comfort working at heights, narrow spaces, and trenches. Physical activities include standing, walking, climbing, bending, and other manual tasks. • Use concrete and carpentry hand tools proficiently. • Understand and apply layout principles and construction math. • Demonstrate punctuality, respectful communication, safety focus, and a can‑do attitude.
