About the Role

• Manage day-to-day laboratory operations for materials and soils testing. • Supervise and train lab technicians, ensuring safety compliance. • Schedule testing priorities to align with project deadlines. • Ensure all testing follows ASTM, AASHTO, and FDOT (or local) standards. • Review and verify test data for accuracy, completeness, and documentation. • Maintain laboratory quality control procedures and internal check systems. • Oversee sample intake, tracking, storage, and disposal procedures. • Maintain equipment calibration, maintenance, and documentation per QA/QC requirements. • Manage inventory of lab supplies and order materials as needed. • Assist in preparing and reviewing lab reports, including supporting calculations. • Communicate test status and results to project managers, field staff, and clients. • Support audits and certifications such as AASHTO/CMEC. • Keep the laboratory clean, organized, and professional. • Conduct geotechnical tests: moisture content, Atterberg limits, Proctor compaction, soil classification, CBR/LBR, sieve analysis, and density calculations. • Perform concrete and construction material tests: compressive strength, cylinder making & curing, slump, air content, unit weight, and modulus of elasticity.

What You Bring

The company is seeking an experienced Laboratory Manager to lead daily operations of its construction materials and geotechnical testing laboratory. The manager will oversee lab staff, ensure accurate and timely testing, maintain compliance with ASTM, AASHTO, and FDOT standards, and support project teams with reporting, quality control, and client service. Candidates should have three to five years of experience in a construction materials or geotechnical testing laboratory, with prior leadership experience preferred. Strong knowledge of relevant testing procedures, the ability to manage multiple projects, proficiency with Excel and reporting software, and excellent communication skills are required. • Possess 3–5 years of experience in a construction materials or geotechnical testing laboratory. • Demonstrate prior leadership experience (lead tech, supervisor, or manager). • Strong knowledge of ASTM/AASHTO/FDOT testing procedures and reporting requirements. • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines with strong organization. • Proficiency with computers and reporting software, especially Excel. • Excellent communication skills for collaboration with field and project teams. • Preferred certifications: ACI Field Testing Technician Grade I, NICET (Construction Materials Testing), FDOT CTQP (if in Florida), OSHA safety training.
