About the Role
The Principal Transport Planner role is based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and reports to the Transportation business line. The incumbent will lead transport planning services for a variety of projects, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and key stakeholders. This position offers the chance to influence the future of mobility in a rapidly developing region. Key duties include directing small‑to‑mid‑size project teams, conducting comprehensive transport studies, and delivering innovative solutions to complex mobility challenges. The planner will manage deliverables, allocate tasks, produce presentations and reports, and serve as the primary client contact for proposals and project execution. Mentoring junior staff, contributing to departmental strategy, and representing AECOM at client meetings and industry events are also essential responsibilities. • Lead and coordinate small to mid‑size transport planning project teams. • Conduct comprehensive transport studies and provide technical guidance in traffic engineering, smart cities, and modeling. • Develop and implement innovative solutions for complex transportation challenges. • Manage project deliverables, task allocation, presentations and high‑quality reports. • Serve as primary client contact for project proposals and delivery. • Participate in interdisciplinary reviews and deliver constructive feedback. • Mentor and support junior team members to foster collaboration. • Contribute to the strategic direction of the transport planning department. • Stay current with industry trends and best practices. • Represent AECOM at client meetings, industry events and stakeholder consultations.

What You Bring
Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree in engineering, geography, urban planning or a related discipline, with a master’s in transportation engineering preferred. Ten to fifteen years of experience, deep knowledge of transport planning and modeling, and proficiency with software such as Cube Voyager, PTV VISUM, SIDRA, Synchro and HCS+ are required. Strong technical writing, project management, QA/QC, analytical, leadership, GIS and communication skills, as well as professional membership or chartership, are also expected. • Hold a bachelor’s degree in engineering, geography, urban planning or a related field; master’s preferred. • Possess 10‑15 years of transportation engineering and planning experience. • Demonstrate expertise with Cube Voyager, PTV VISUM, SIDRA, Synchro and HCS+. • Exhibit strong technical writing skills and produce high‑quality reports and presentations. • Proven project management experience coordinating teams and workloads. • Knowledge of quality assurance/control processes in project delivery. • Skilled in statistical tools, databases and GIS (e.g., ArcGIS). • Understanding of road safety principles and commercial proposal preparation. • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities. • Membership in professional bodies such as CIHT, ICE, TPS and eligibility for chartership.
