About the Role

The role involves conducting rail service planning and simulation modeling with project teams, evaluating project designs and service plans across multiple rail modes, and analyzing infrastructure and operations data to support modeling efforts. Deliverables include technical reports, memos, maps, dashboards, and visualizations. You will perform independent technical reviews, research operational performance of rail networks and train control systems, and present findings to clients. The position also requires staying current with industry practices, collaborating with engineers, planners, regulators, academics, and government representatives, and upholding WSP’s Code of Conduct and safety standards. • Conduct rail service planning and simulation modeling with project teams. • Evaluate project designs and service plans across diverse rail modes. • Collect, process, and analyze rail infrastructure and operations data for modeling. • Produce technical reports, memos, maps, dashboards, and visualizations. • Perform independent technical reviews to support capital projects and outage planning. • Research operational performance of rail networks, vehicles, and train control systems. • Present findings to clients and coordinate technical aspects with partners. • Stay current with industry practices, regulatory requirements, and emerging technologies. • Collaborate with engineers, planners, regulators, academics, and government representatives on funded projects. • Uphold WSP’s Code of Conduct and safety integrity standards.

What You Bring

Ideal candidates have a strong analytical background, an interest in rail operations, and interpersonal skills suited to a client‑focused consulting environment. Required credentials include a bachelor’s degree in engineering, planning, policy, computer science or a related field (or equivalent experience) and 0‑3 years of relevant post‑education experience. Familiarity with rail operations, ability to learn simulation software, data‑analytics expertise, Microsoft Office proficiency, strong communication, multitasking, critical thinking, and a commitment to safety and WSP’s policies are essential, along with flexibility for project‑aligned schedules and occasional travel. • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Planning, Policy, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience). • 0–3 years of relevant post‑education experience. • Familiarity with rail operations, rules, and practices. • Ability to quickly learn rail simulation or operations planning software. • Knowledge of rail systems, train control/signaling, vehicles, and operations. • Experience in data analytics using industry‑standard tools. • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). • Strong communication skills for conveying technical concepts to varied audiences. • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and contribute in a team. • Critical thinking and problem‑solving to turn data into actionable insights. • Graduate degree in Engineering, Planning, Policy, or related field (preferred). • Professional credentials such as E.I.T / P.E, AICP, or similar certifications (preferred). • Professional experience in rail operations, transit, or transportation consulting (preferred). • Hands‑on experience with rail simulation software (e.g., Viriato, OpenTrack, RTC, Railsys) (preferred). • Proficiency with GIS, CAD, R, Python, or Adobe Suite (preferred).
