About the Role

• Design protection & control systems for 4kV‑500kV substations and switching stations. • Produce and review one‑line, three‑line, relay schematics, SCADA controls, and control house layouts. • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including layout designers, protection engineers, construction supervisors, and field staff. • Perform AC/DC load bank and battery sizing calculations. • Provide technical guidance and quality reviews for junior engineers and external contractors. • Coordinate with vendors and evaluate technical documentation for compliance and accuracy. • Lead design teams on complex projects and engage in client technical discussions. • Apply expertise in microprocessor relay design, high‑voltage equipment controls, SCADA, and GIS systems. • Support proposal development through estimating and scheduling P&C work.

What You Bring

Mott MacDonald is seeking a passionate and experienced Senior Protection & Controls Engineer to join our dynamic team in Boston, New York, or New Jersey. The role offers hands‑on engineering across a wide range of electrical utility projects, where you can apply deep technical expertise in a collaborative setting. • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (Master’s preferred). • 10+ years of protection & control engineering experience, including SCADA systems. • Minimum 5 years hands‑on experience with utility switching stations/substations. • Strong knowledge of protective relay schemes, fiber‑optic communication, metering, and AC/DC power distribution. • Ability to develop and interpret complex control schematics and electrical layout drawings. • Familiarity with NERC and IEEE standards. • Proven ability to mentor junior staff and foster technical growth. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
