About the Role
The Building Engineer in Minneapolis, MN is responsible for the efficient operation and maintenance of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing equipment and systems across assigned properties, ensuring a safe and clean working environment. Key duties include performing routine and preventive maintenance, conducting assessments, handling painting and housekeeping tasks, responding to emergencies, and documenting all activities for supervisory review. • Perform plumbing, electrical, and HVAC work for assigned buildings • Maintain heating equipment, chillers, pumps, cooling towers, fan coil units, VAV and air distribution systems • Monitor and adjust mechanical/pneumatic equipment, steam stations, controls, valves, thermostats and diffusers • Verify field conditions and execute repairs or adjustments as needed • Manage energy usage and monitor energy management systems • Repair doors, ceilings, hand railings, floors and conduct general property repairs • Service plumbing fixtures such as toilets, urinals, flush valves and lavatories • Execute preventive maintenance per C&W standards, including filter changes, coil cleaning, bearing greasing, belt adjustments, chemical water treatment and cooling tower upkeep • Inspect engine rooms, fan rooms, generators, fire pumps, sump and ejector pumps; replace lighting and signage; keep areas clear of debris • Ensure emergency exit signs and lights function, maintain clear egress routes, and conduct fire and life‑safety inspections • Document work activities and report to supervisor • Respond promptly to emergencies, equipment failures and customer concerns • Follow all applicable codes, regulations and company safety directives • Complete required C&W safety training annually and adhere to uniform dress code • Maintain appropriate trade licenses or certifications (e.g., Journeyman, Master Electrician, Refrigeration, Boiler, Steam)

What You Bring
The role operates in a professional office setting with regular travel between properties, requiring the use of standard office equipment and exposure to varying weather conditions. Physical requirements involve lifting at least 50 pounds, climbing, stooping, crouching, and clear communication for reading schematics and providing verbal instructions. • Demonstrate technical proficiency, initiative, flexibility, multitasking and a sense of urgency • Hold High School diploma or GED; apprenticeship or trade school graduation preferred • Possess 5+ years experience operating mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems in commercial properties • May need Universal Technician certification for CFCs and a valid driver’s license with good record • Possess basic computer skills (Outlook, Excel, Word) and knowledge of HVAC, boilers, pumps, refrigerant systems and energy management • Ability to work shifts, on‑call or extended periods during emergencies
