About the Role
The position reports to the General Manager and is responsible for the entire preconstruction process from project inception through the start of construction in the Houston division. • Manage the Business Unit Estimating department and allocate resources for project estimations. • Oversee reimbursement and G&A expense management for estimating staff. • Develop and sustain relationships with clients, architects, design professionals, and trade partners. • Participate in hiring, onboarding, performance feedback, and annual appraisals for direct reports. • Review drawings, specifications, and construction documents, flagging design risks to senior management. • Lead development of lump‑sum bids and obtain senior management approval. • Conduct market research to identify upcoming work opportunities. • Coordinate and review General Conditions/General Requirements estimates. • Maintain historical estimating data and analyze cost trends. • Manage the Value Engineering process during preconstruction. • Collaborate with Business Development to prepare proposals and present to clients. • Work with Procurement to develop schedules, evaluate subcontractor proposals, and manage resources. • Coordinate with Operations Lead on Launch Matrix preparation, scheduling, and milestone meetings. • Participate in Constructability Reviews and integrate findings into milestone estimates. • Partner with Lean Manager to create Pull Plans for design, estimate, and GMP schedules. • Prepare variance analysis comparing estimates and communicate differences to stakeholders. • Generate and manage Budget Control Reports, providing variance updates for each milestone. • Lead or support Target Value Design processes on selected projects. • Provide accurate qualitative and quantitative analysis of estimating documents. • Develop client relationships, identify sales opportunities, and collaborate to secure work. • Maintain deep knowledge of regional market conditions, competition, and industry trends. • Provide management, coaching, and mentoring to team members. • Deliver executive‑level presentations tailored to audience needs. • Apply critical thinking, sound judgment, and decision‑making across organizational levels.

Based in Houston, TX 77040, this regular, salaried exempt role requires a minimum of 10 years of building construction experience and is classified under the Construction job family. The job involves frequent office work, occasional on‑site visits, and regular use of a computer. Physical demands include sitting for extended periods, occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds (and occasionally up to 50 pounds), and occasional travel to various locations. • Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or related field. • Possess at least 10 years of building construction experience. • Demonstrate thorough understanding of drawings, specifications, contracts, and construction methods. • Exhibit extensive knowledge of construction cost, scheduling, estimating, purchasing, engineering, and accounting principles. • Exhibit advanced project management skills to handle high‑volume work in complex environments. • Utilize strong negotiation skills to influence and engage stakeholders. • Demonstrate energy, drive, and persistence to see initiatives through to completion.
