About the Role
The Purchasing role is responsible for maintaining supplier relationships, uncovering new sourcing opportunities for ferrous and non‑ferrous scrap, and solving quality, transportation, and safety issues. The position coordinates production, shipping, and inspection functions, manages large accounts across multiple logistics modes, and negotiates freight rates while ensuring accurate recoveries and compliance with safety standards. • Maintain and develop relationships with a defined supplier list • Identify new strategic sourcing opportunities for ferrous and non‑ferrous scrap • Resolve supplier issues related to quality, transportation, and safety • Coordinate support functions across production, shipping, and inspection to ensure source control and accurate recoveries • Interact with key control positions at scrap processing facilities • Travel to meet suppliers and customers, building strong partnerships • Prepare purchasing forecasts and assess facility financial performance • Manage large supplier accounts with multiple shipping lanes • Execute purchase contracts and oversee shipments via truck, rail, or barge • Negotiate freight rates and maintain relationships with transportation companies • Align production buy plans, delivery, and shipping schedules while upholding quality standards • Assist in training and developing the commercial peer group

What You Bring
Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree, be proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel, and have at least two years of procurement or metal‑trading experience, including carrier rate negotiations.
