About the Role

The Staff Engineer plans and conducts work requiring independent judgment in subsurface exploration techniques, engineering analysis, reporting, and construction project oversight. Acting as a specialist in geotechnical engineering, the role supports projects from inception to completion under the supervision of the location manager and senior staff. • Support project managers and senior staff in planning and executing projects of varying size and complexity. • Review work products for compliance with the Quality Control Manual. • Conduct research and develop new or improved geotechnical techniques and procedures. • Supervise, coordinate, and review the work of field technicians and related personnel. • Develop and review technical and cost proposals, deliverables, and other project documents. • Serve as the staff professional on construction sites, overseeing foundation excavations and shoring activities. • Manage subsurface explorations, including borehole sampling, instrumentation installation, and subcontractor supervision.

What You Bring

This hybrid position is based in Torrance, requiring three days per week in the office and ideally a residence within one hour of the site. Travel to assignments, including out‑of‑town projects, is expected and a valid driver’s license with an insurable record is required. • Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (Master’s a plus) and an Engineer-in-Training certification, working toward PE licensure. • Minimum of 3 years of geotechnical field engineering construction experience; construction experience is a plus. • Demonstrate knowledge of regulatory requirements, strong communication and writing skills, sound judgment, and effective time management. • Possess interpersonal, teamwork, and problem‑solving abilities, and be willing to travel with a valid driver’s license. • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lb, sit at a computer for extended periods, and perform intermittent walking, standing, kneeling, and bending.

Benefits

Compensation for this California position ranges from $90,000 to $105,000 annually, with base pay adjusted for experience, knowledge, and location. Additional compensation may include restricted stock units and a full suite of benefits such as medical, dental, life insurance, PTO, 401(k), and professional development opportunities.
