About the Role

Under general supervision, the engineer will collect and analyze data from work sites, surveys, blueprints and other sources to support project development and construction. Duties include conducting research and inspections of existing and proposed site conditions, performing load calculations and providing technical assistance on design and installation requirements, as well as generating clear specifications and reports using electronic systems. The role also requires compliance with safety guidelines, completion of assigned training, and adherence to WSP’s Code of Conduct. • Provide technical assistance for design, development, testing, and inspection of mechanical systems in building and infrastructure projects. • Collect and analyze site data, surveys, and blueprints to support project design. • Conduct research, inspections, and generate documentation for temperature control, air distribution, hydronic, and plumbing systems. • Perform load calculations and offer technical support for equipment installation and operation. • Ensure compliance with safety guidelines, industry standards, and WSP’s Code of Conduct. • Use AutoCAD, Revit, Trace3D, and Microsoft Office for drawings and specifications.

What You Bring

WSP is seeking an Early Career Mechanical Engineer – Buildings for its New York office. The role provides local technical assistance for design, development, testing and inspection of mechanical systems on infrastructure, building and construction projects in both the public and private sector. The engineer will support research, concept development, installation, operation, maintenance and integration of temperature control, air distribution, hydronic and plumbing systems, and produce accurate documentation that meets industry standards for design, safety and functionality. Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field, with 0‑1 years of post‑education experience. Required skills include strong research and analytical abilities, familiarity with design/build processes, relevant codes and regulations, and proficiency with technical writing and software such as AutoCAD, Revit, Trace3D and Microsoft Office. Applicants must be able to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrate attention to detail, and uphold workplace safety standards. Preferred qualifications include Engineer-in-Training certification, prior internships in HVAC or related engineering disciplines, and active participation in professional organizations. The position is open to candidates authorized to work in the United States and may involve occasional travel and flexible scheduling to meet project needs. • Hold a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering (or related) with 0‑1 years of experience and strong analytical skills. • Demonstrate effective communication, teamwork, and the ability to work independently under general supervision. • Preferred: Engineer-in-Training certification, HVAC internship experience, and involvement in professional organizations. • Authorized to work in the U.S.; occasional travel and flexible hours may be required.

Compensation for this role ranges from $58,200 to $96,030, with the final offer based on education, experience, skills and geographic equity, subject to applicable laws. • Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life, disability insurance, retirement plan, and paid leave (sick, vacation, parental, bereavement, voting, naturalization). • Salary range: $58,200 – $96,030, adjusted for education, experience, skills, and location.
