About the Role
As a Principal Specialist, you will support Mott MacDonald’s delivery of multidisciplinary engineering solutions across energy, water, transportation, buildings, and utility‑infrastructure projects. You will apply your extensive background in electrical engineering, commissioning, EV infrastructure, utility coordination, MEP systems, and sustainability to help shape complex project designs from concept through construction, testing, commissioning, and operational handover. You will work collaboratively with design teams, contractors, clients, and regulatory agencies to deliver resilient, sustainable, code‑compliant infrastructure that aligns with Mott MacDonald’s engineering excellence, community impact, and long‑term asset performance objectives. • Lead commissioning planning, performance testing, field observations, and issue resolution for electrical, mechanical, and integrated MEP systems. • Oversee functional performance testing and conduct site surveys, condition assessments, and inspections to verify compliance and operational readiness. • Provide engineering oversight for mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and renewable system designs and review construction documents. • Conduct site assessments, evaluate existing systems, prepare condition reports, cost estimates, and upgrade recommendations. • Ensure designs comply with NEC, building and energy codes, MEP best practices, and relevant regulations. • Manage electrification projects including EV charging infrastructure, PV/renewable generation, grid‑connected battery storage, and microgrid components. • Lead utility coordination for service upgrades, interconnections, load forecasting, and large‑scale charging or hybrid power projects. • Integrate LEED BD+C strategies, conduct energy assessments, and coordinate sustainability goals with architects and owners. • Provide expertise on renewable energy systems, PV integration, battery storage, and resilience strategies to support client sustainability targets.

What You Bring
• Require a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (or related) and 15+ years of progressive experience in electrical engineering, MEP project management, or commissioning. • Must have strong knowledge of NEC, building and energy codes, and proven experience in large‑scale commissioning on complex infrastructure. • Preferred experience with water utilities, transit agencies, EPC contractors, public‑sector owners, and electrification/energy transition projects; LEED AP BD+C credential required. • Excellent communication, technical writing, and stakeholder coordination skills; proficient with commissioning protocols and energy systems. • Hybrid work model requires at least three days per week on‑site to foster collaboration.
