About the Role

The engineer will focus on rapidly migrating physical and on‑premises infrastructure to AWS using a lift‑and‑shift approach, then work with senior engineers to modernize and optimize those workloads. All projects follow Agile methodology, emphasizing iterative delivery, continuous improvement, and close collaboration with stakeholders. Key duties include building automation tools, maintaining CI/CD pipelines, applying Infrastructure as Code, and supporting cloud‑based applications within a cross‑functional team. The role also involves documenting processes, improving system reliability, and identifying cost‑optimization opportunities through FinOps principles. • Migrate on‑premises infrastructure to AWS using lift‑and‑shift techniques. • Develop and maintain automation tools for provisioning, monitoring, auditing, and de‑provisioning AWS resources. • Build and optimize CI/CD pipelines with GitLab Runners or similar tools. • Apply Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, CloudFormation, or AWS CDK; configure environments with Ansible. • Troubleshoot cloud applications and support cross‑functional teams. • Contribute to documentation and process improvements for reliability and efficiency. • Implement AWS cost‑optimization and FinOps strategies. • Collaborate in Agile teams: sprint planning, daily stand‑ups, and retrospectives.

KBR is seeking a Junior Cloud DevOps Engineer to join its team of innovators, thinkers, and creators. The role supports the company's mission to improve the world responsibly by delivering science‑based solutions. This position is contingent on contract award, customer approval, and funding, and requires U.S. citizenship due to contractual and security requirements. Preferred location is Sioux Falls, SD, but remote candidates will be considered. Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field, possess AWS associate‑level and Terraform Associate certifications, and have at least six years of cloud engineering or DevOps experience, primarily with AWS. Required expertise includes CI/CD, containerization, scripting (Python, Bash, PowerShell), security, networking, IaC tools, and configuration management such as Ansible. Preferred qualifications include additional AWS specialty or professional certifications and familiarity with Agile software engineering practices. Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a national agency background investigation for government facility access. • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or related field. • AWS Associate‑level certification and Terraform Associate certification required. • Minimum six years of cloud engineering/DevOps experience, primarily on AWS. • Hands‑on experience with CI/CD, containerization, automation, and scripting (Python, Bash, PowerShell). • Strong knowledge of AWS security, networking, and IaC tools. • Experience with configuration management tools such as Ansible, Chef, or Puppet. • Preferred: AWS Specialty or Professional certifications and familiarity with Agile methodologies.

Benefits

The salary range is $110,000 – $165,000, adjusted for location, knowledge, and experience.
