About the Role

This full‑time summer internship supports Construction Safety Management for the Port of Seattle’s Capitol Development Division at aviation and maritime facilities, ensuring compliance with contract specifications, Port policies, Washington Administrative Codes, FAA, Coast Guard, and fire codes. Interns will work with the Construction Safety Department, managers, and inspectors to provide safety oversight of contractors, review site safety plans, deliver safety awareness training, and perform weekly audits of safe work procedures and site conditions. Additional duties include assisting with the identification and resolution of safety concerns, preparing meeting materials, managing databases and safety‑equipment inventory, and coordinating activities with contractors and Port departments. • Support Construction Safety Management for Port facilities, ensuring compliance with contract specs, Port policies, WAC, FAA, Coast Guard, and fire codes. • Collaborate with Construction Safety Department, managers, and inspectors to oversee contractor safety. • Review Site Safety Plans and provide safety awareness training to contractors and staff. • Conduct documented weekly audits of contractors' safe work procedures and site conditions. • Assist in identifying and resolving safety concerns. • Prepare meeting materials, manage databases, and oversee safety equipment inventory. • Coordinate activities between contractors and Port departments.

What You Bring

Candidates must be currently enrolled in or have graduated within the past year from an undergraduate program such as Safety and Health, Construction Safety, Construction Management, or Civil Engineering. The role requires a strong commitment to equity, high computer proficiency in MS Office, SharePoint, Adobe Acrobat and Bluebeam, and excellent verbal and written communication skills. Applicants should be flexible, organized, proactive, and possess basic construction safety or management experience, including reading safety plans, specifications, schedules, and codes, as well as maintaining accurate safety documents. Technical writing, public speaking, and presentation skills are preferred. • Be currently enrolled or a recent graduate (<1 year) in Safety & Health, Construction Safety, Construction Management, or Civil Engineering. • Proficient with MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint, Adobe Acrobat, and Bluebeam. • Exhibit excellent verbal and written communication skills. • Possess strong organizational, time‑management, and proactive learning abilities. • Have basic construction safety or management experience, including reading safety plans, specifications, schedules, and codes, and maintaining safety documents. • Preferred: technical writing, public speaking, and presentation skills.
