About the Role

Mortenson is seeking a Senior Commissioning Manager to drive and lead project construction and contract administration activities, with an emphasis on successful commissioning. The role involves delivering larger and more complex assignments and supporting Commissioning Managers in planning and executing work that requires independent evaluation, selection, and adaptation of commissioning techniques, procedures, and criteria. Key responsibilities include executing functional performance testing in the field, drafting technical documents for issue resolution and lessons learned, and conducting training sessions within the discipline. The manager will coordinate across disciplines for construction issues, collaborate with contractors to resolve commissioning problems, develop system test procedures, oversee document control, support business development, and lead team members by example through coaching and feedback. • Execute and direct functional performance testing in the field. • Draft technical documents for issue resolutions, lessons learned, and best practices. • Conduct training and educational sessions within your discipline. • Communicate across disciplines for construction coordination and issue resolution. • Collaborate with contractors to resolve commissioning issues during testing. • Develop and coordinate system test procedures and oversee document control. • Support business development and new project sales. • Lead team members by example, providing coaching and feedback.

What You Bring

Candidates should hold a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering field or possess 15+ years of equivalent experience, along with a minimum of eight years in construction management or commissioning, preferably with an MEP contractor or commissioning firm. They must have expert knowledge of the full project delivery process, mastery of commissioning levels L0‑L5, comprehensive understanding of building systems, the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, and strong leadership, customer service, and travel capabilities up to 50%. • Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Civil, Architectural, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering, or 15+ years equivalent field experience. • Minimum eight years of construction management or commissioning experience, preferably with an MEP contractor or commissioning firm. • Expert understanding of design, construction, start‑up, commissioning, and turnover alignment. • Mastery of the commissioning process (L0‑L5) and key construction documents related to QA/QC. • Comprehensive knowledge of building systems across disciplines; depth in at least one (HVAC, plumbing/piping, electrical, lighting, instrumentation/controls, or building envelope). • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently, delegate workload, and balance team capacity. • Proven professional attitude, excellent customer service, and team leadership skills. • Ability to travel up to 50%.
