Staff Design Engineer
Design and develop insulated connector products and support manufacturing.
Job Highlights
About the Role
The Staff Engineer will design product and process activities to support new product development and product line sustainment for insulated separable connectors (cable accessories). The role is part of a team working on several high‑visibility projects with additional initiatives in the pipeline. Primary focus is new product development for the Cable Accessories Business Unit, covering load‑break, dead‑break, and dead‑front arrester products. Responsibilities include ownership of design content such as 3D models, 2D drawings, technical specifications, multiphysics simulations, tolerance stack‑up, DFMEA, DFMA, and design validation plans and reports. The engineer will actively participate in IEEE/PES/ICC standards development, provide expert technical assistance to applications, process, and quality engineering, and maintain broad knowledge of current manufacturing processes. Interaction with customers, collaboration with manufacturing on tooling and pilot runs, and recommendation of corrective actions for deviations, ECRs, and drawing changes are also required, as is serving on the Change Control Board. Proficiency in Inventor, AutoCAD, and PDM drawing management systems is expected, along with travel for off‑site testing, marketing support, and training. • Lead design of insulated separable connectors, including load‑break and dead‑break products. • Create 3D models, 2D drawings, technical specifications, simulations, tolerance stack‑ups, DFMEA, DFMA, and DVP&R. • Participate in IEEE/PES/ICC standards development and serve on Change Control Board. • Provide expert technical support to applications, process, and quality engineering teams. • Collaborate with manufacturing on tooling, pilot runs, and first‑article inspections. • Recommend and implement corrective actions for deviations, ECRs, and drawing changes. • Develop detailed work plans, schedules, and specifications; able to lift 50 lb and work on shop floor.

What You Bring
To thrive in this role, candidates need a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering and at least six years of experience designing and manufacturing insulated separable connectors, load‑break, and dead‑break products. Proficiency with 3D modeling software (Inventor, SolidWorks), AutoCAD, electric field analysis tools, and finite element analysis is required, as well as experience with IEEE testing procedures. Strong organizational, analytical, leadership, and project management skills are essential, along with the ability to develop detailed work plans, schedules, and specifications. The position may require up to 15% travel and the ability to work on the manufacturing shop floor, including lifting up to 50 pounds. • Utilize Inventor, AutoCAD, and PDM systems; proficient in 3D modeling software. • Travel up to 15% for off‑site testing, marketing support, and training activities. • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering; 6+ years experience with insulated separable connectors. • Proficient in Inventor/SolidWorks, AutoCAD, electric field analysis, and finite element analysis. • Experience with IEEE testing procedures; strong organizational and leadership skills.
