About the Role
The engineer will be accountable for the successful execution of engineering and construction initiatives across WM’s solid waste facilities, ensuring regulatory compliance and cost‑effective delivery while supporting operational excellence. • Direct and manage consulting firms for permit applications, construction plans, site monitoring, and regulatory submissions. • Serve as primary liaison with regulators, representing WM in permit meetings, hearings, and inspections. • Oversee landfill construction projects, including bid preparation, contractor coordination, quality assurance, and material delivery. • Manage and report capital budgets for engineering and construction projects per company procedures. • Conduct landfill capacity tracking, performing airspace calculations and developing fill sequencing and closure schedules. • Evaluate sites for compliance and expansion potential, proactively securing required permits and modifications. • Collaborate with internal experts to devise cost‑effective engineering solutions for landfills, transfer stations, and hauling operations. • Participate in acquisition reviews and divestiture evaluations, providing pro‑forma modeling and due‑diligence support. • Mentor and supervise technical staff, providing training and guidance.

What You Bring
This role seeks an experienced engineer in the environmental and solid waste industry. The engineer will lead technical projects, oversee engineering and construction at solid waste disposal facilities, and mentor junior staff. They will help WM maintain its leadership and innovation in comprehensive waste‑management services. Candidates must hold an accredited bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field and have at least seven years of relevant experience.
