Entry-level civil engineer reviewing permits, plans, and inspections for NCDOT projects

About the Role
• Evaluate and provide technical input on Traffic Impact Analyses (TIAs). • Support coordination between NCDOT District staff, local governments, developers, and the public. • Process road additions and deletions for the state highway system. • Conduct subdivision plan reviews to confirm roadway design, drainage, and access meet NCDOT specifications. • Review encroachment and driveway permit applications, ensuring compliance with NCDOT standards, design criteria, and safety requirements. • Research right-of-way (ROW) and project plans to support permitting, coordination, and field inquiries. • Perform field inspections, such as verifying turn lanes, drainage, and other roadway features for permitted projects.

What You Bring
• Familiarity with NCDOT Connect, Driveway Permit, or Encroachment systems. • 0-2 years of relevant experience (internship or co-op experience accepted). • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline from an ABET-accredited program. • Strong communication and organizational skills. • Ability to interpret engineering plans and technical drawings. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for client and public interaction. • Experience reviewing or inspecting roadway design, drainage, and traffic control plans. • Proficiency with MicroStation, AutoCAD, or GIS tools. • Basic understanding of roadway design, plan review, or construction inspection.
