About the Role

As a Safety Engineer Intern at Mortenson, you will interact with a variety of people to implement Mortenson’s Zero Injury program. You will work at a project site and support ways to ensure a safe work environment for team members, subcontractors, and visitors. Our internships will grow your skillset in a variety of areas. • Champion Mortenson’s zero‑injury safety requirements • Perform daily safety audits • Coordinate and conduct worker observations • Support orientation for new onsite team members • Host daily stretch‑and‑bend sessions • Provide technical field support on OSHA, ZIPTM, MSDS, event management, etc. • Assist with incident investigation and analysis • Help train and maintain the onsite safety program • Collaborate to advance the industry‑leading safety program

What You Bring

Required qualifications include pursuing a Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in safety, occupational health or a related field, willingness to be mobile or relocate, reliable transportation, a driver’s license, and comfort with exposure to dirt, heat, noise, dust, and a trailer‑office environment. Preferred qualifications are an adaptable, agile learner with big ideas, at least a 3.0 GPA, enrollment as a freshman‑through‑junior undergraduate, detail‑oriented organization, basic understanding of construction law, strong collaboration, communication, problem‑solving skills, initiative, a positive professional attitude, and solid customer‑service skills.

Benefits

You will join an exciting and ever‑changing industry with a minimum 12‑week internship during the summer of 2026 (May – August). Placement with one of our teams will be provided based on the overall needs of the organization. The hourly wage for college interns starts at $18, with higher rates for sophomores and upper‑class students.
