Construction Materials Internship (Level 1)
Assist in field testing, data analysis, and documentation of construction materials on project sites.

About the Role
In this role you will observe and document field activities throughout the construction process. You will be responsible for sampling, testing, and inspecting a variety of materials—including soils, aggregates, concrete, grout, masonry, asphalt, and structural steel—and for performing calculations, data reduction, and drafting of test results. Using field screening equipment, you will record readings, read maps, follow directions, and interpret engineering and construction plans. Daily communication with contractors, technicians, and project managers will prepare you to become the sole ECS representative on project sites. • Observe and document construction field activities. • Sample, test, and inspect soils, aggregates, concrete, grout, masonry, asphalt, and structural steel. • Perform calculations, data reduction, and draft test results. • Operate field screening equipment and record readings. • Read maps, follow directions, and interpret engineering and construction plans. • Communicate daily with contractors, technicians, and project managers. • Represent ECS as the sole on‑site representative. • Provide reliable transportation for site travel (mileage reimbursed).

What You Bring
We are seeking candidates actively pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in civil engineering, construction management, or a related discipline, with a strong interest in how building materials are used during construction. The position requires repeatedly lifting 40–70 lb and occasionally handling 85 lb to waist height, as well as reliable transportation for site travel (mileage reimbursed). Please note that relocation assistance is not offered. • Pursue a B.S. or M.S. in civil engineering, construction management, or related field. • Lift 40–70 lb repeatedly and occasionally 85 lb to waist height.
