About the Role

The Account Director leads the commissioning of engineering services, ensuring planning, execution, recording, and client reporting are accurate and timely. This role serves as the primary contact for senior client teams, providing weekly updates and promoting HDR’s capabilities. Core duties include delivering commitments on schedule while meeting quality standards, preparing fee proposals, and using company management systems. The director oversees project safety, team performance, monthly job costing, and advises on commissioning strategies, quality requirements, and scopes of work, while managing engineers and keeping the account team informed of opportunities. Ongoing responsibilities involve improving systems and procedures as a technical champion, representing HDR in marketing, ensuring health and safety compliance, and maintaining strong relationships with staff and professional teams. The role also tracks finances, attends project meetings and commissioning summits, signs off technical reports, monitors scope changes, and supports tender submissions. • Deliver commitments on time while meeting quality standards • Act as primary client contact and promote HDR services • Prepare fee proposals using company management systems • Oversee project safety and team performance, reporting issues as needed • Review monthly job costing reports and supply data for board reports • Advise on commissioning strategies, quality requirements, and scopes of work • Manage HDR engineers and managers, including recruitment and performance reviews • Keep the account team informed of developments and opportunities • Improve systems and procedures as a technical champion • Represent the company in marketing activities • Ensure compliance with health and safety policy • Maintain strong relationships with staff and professional teams • Ensure technical compliance and high-quality deliverables • Track project finances and control expenditure • Attend project meetings and commissioning summits • Prepare and sign off technical reports and commissioning documents • Monitor scope changes and report internally • Support tender submissions and assist colleagues

What You Bring

The ideal candidate is an experienced building services engineer with hands‑on or managerial commissioning expertise across control engineering, fire systems, HVAC, electrical distribution, refrigeration, QA, sustainability, and standby power. Preferred qualifications include 15+ years in mechanical, electrical, and controls disciplines, ability to lead commissioning from design to completion, sustainability knowledge, strong troubleshooting and reporting skills, and a valid driver’s license. Required qualifications are a bachelor’s degree in engineering, at least 10 years of relevant experience, 5 years of project management, a Professional Engineer license, and proficiency with MS Office and MS Project. Demonstrated leadership, business development, strategic planning, and a commitment to HDR’s employee‑owned culture are essential. • 15+ years experience with mechanical, electrical, and controls disciplines • Ability to lead commissioning from design to completion • Knowledge of sustainability and building system operations • Willingness to travel in the UK and abroad • Troubleshooting skills (HVAC, TAB, controls) and strong reporting abilities • Understanding of operations, safety, inspections, and maintenance • Strong communication, time management, and interpersonal skills • Technical MEP/HVAC knowledge and MS Office proficiency • Valid driver’s license • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering • 10 years related experience • Minimum 5 years project management experience • Professional Engineer (PE) license • MS Office and MS Project experience (Access a plus) • Demonstrated leadership, business development, and strategic planning skills
