About the Role

Operators use Advanced Traffic Management Systems (ATMS) software and web‑based tools to monitor freeways, detect incidents, dispatch personnel, and coordinate with the State Highway Emergency Program, the Department of Public Safety, and partner agencies. The position supports 24/7 roadside assistance for stranded motorists and plays a critical role in maintaining safety and mobility across South Carolina’s interstate network. • Dispatch and coordinate SHEP patrollers for roadside assistance and incident response. • Monitor surveillance cameras and data sources to detect and verify traffic events. • Log events and lane/shoulder closures using ATMS software. • Control and monitor ITS devices such as cameras and dynamic message signs. • Participate in required technical and customer‑service training and certification. • Follow program Standard Operating Procedures and guidelines. • Communicate with SHEP patrollers, SCDPS, law enforcement, fire, ambulance, and towing via radio/phone. • Answer calls from motorists and agencies, provide information, and transfer as needed. • Document all communications and activities clearly and concisely.

What You Bring

Candidates must have a high school diploma or GED, be able to remain stationary for long periods, operate software platforms, and pass background and drug screening. Preferred applicants bring call‑center, 911, or dispatch experience, strong customer‑service skills, familiarity with South Carolina roadways, and proficiency with ATMS platforms.
