About the Role
Key responsibilities include acting as the Radiation Protection Adviser (RPA) for multiple sites, developing and reviewing health‑physics policies, delivering independent assurance programmes against licence conditions, IRR17, EPR and REPPIR, and providing expert advice to business units. The manager also supports site emergency arrangements as an on‑call Health Physics Adviser and RADSAFE responder. • Act as Radiation Protection Adviser for nuclear‑licensed sites and submarine projects. • Develop and maintain health‑physics, dosimetry and radioactive waste management policies. • Deliver independent assurance activities meeting licence, IRR17, EPR and REPPIR requirements. • Provide radiation risk advice and guidance to business units. • Serve as on‑call Health Physics Advisor and RADSAFE emergency responder.

What You Bring
Candidates must hold a degree or equivalent in science, engineering, HSE or related fields, and possess a Certificate of Competence to act as an RPA. Required experience covers design and operation of nuclear or hazardous facilities, familiarity with nuclear licence and environmental permit conditions, independent oversight assessments, emergency response, proven leadership, and a UK driving licence. Desirable qualifications include a Certificate of Competence as a Radioactive Waste Adviser and Chartered Radiation Protection Professional status. Applicants must obtain Security Check clearance (supported by Rolls‑Royce) and be UK nationals or MoD‑approved dual nationals. The selection process may involve online cognitive and behavioural assessments. • Hold a degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline and an RPA competence certificate. • Experience with nuclear facility design, operation, and licence condition compliance. • Proven ability to conduct and report independent oversight and assurance assessments. • Demonstrated leadership and hold a valid UK driving licence. • Desirable: Radioactive Waste Adviser competence and Chartered Radiation Protection Professional. • Eligibility for Security Check clearance; UK national or MoD‑approved dual national required.
