About the Role

The engineer will present product designs at Preliminary Design Review (PDR) and Critical Design Review (CDR) forums, including customer reviews, and manage customer requirements. They will coordinate design and qualification tasks assigned to peers, Centers of Excellence, and test labs, and conduct technical reviews with senior leadership. Collaboration with manufacturing, supply chain teams, and suppliers is required to develop designs that meet manufacturing capabilities and cost targets, while ensuring design and analytical standards set by the Chief Engineering Staff are met. The role also includes providing technical guidance to junior engineers and documenting design processes, checklists, lessons learned, and experience data. Improvement teams will be led using a data-driven approach, employing advanced problem-solving tools to develop and evaluate process capability, control plans, and conduct audits. The engineer will support the review of customer‑returned units, identify problems, and implement corrective actions. Innovation is expected to create product solutions that satisfy customer requirements, cost goals, and schedule commitments. Additionally, the engineer will prepare technical proposals and non-recurring engineering (NRE) cost estimates for new business opportunities. • Present product designs at PDR and CDR forums and manage customer requirements. • Coordinate design and qualification tasks across peers, COEs, and test labs. • Conduct technical reviews with senior leadership and collaborate with manufacturing, supply chain, and suppliers. • Lead data-driven improvement teams, develop process capability studies, control plans, and conduct audits. • Identify root causes of returned units, implement corrective actions, and innovate solutions to meet cost and schedule targets. • Prepare technical proposals and non-recurring engineering cost estimates for new opportunities. • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and document best-practice processes.

What You Bring

The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution and a minimum of seven years of progressive experience in engineering, product development, and qualifications. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship and must comply with export-controlled information regulations, requiring U.S. person status. Only applicants within a 50-mile radius of Rumford, RI will be considered, although active-duty military members are exempt, and no relocation benefit is offered. Preferred qualifications include a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, aerospace design experience, and proven ability to lead aerospace development projects. The engineer should possess detailed knowledge of GD&T (ANSI Y 14.5), manufacturing processes such as turning, milling, grinding, and lapping, and be familiar with Product Data Management (PDM) systems. Competence in Design for Six Sigma, Six Sigma methodology, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis, tolerance allocation, lean manufacturing, and quality standards such as ISO 9001 and AS9100 is also desirable. • Hold a Bachelor’s (or Master’s) in Mechanical Engineering with at least 7 years of product development experience. • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship and meet export-control requirements. • Preferred aerospace/mechanical systems design experience, GD&T expertise, and knowledge of DFSS, Six Sigma, FMEA, and lean manufacturing. • Familiarity with PDM systems, GD&T (ANSI Y 14.5), and manufacturing processes such as turning, milling, grinding, and lapping. • Strong problem-solving skills using 8D, root-cause analysis, control charts, and quality standards (ISO 9001, AS9100). • Ability to work in lab/production environments with required safety equipment. • Candidates must reside within 50 mi of Rumford, RI (active-duty military exempt); no relocation assistance provided.
