About the Role

The role requires programming and debugging of microcontroller‑based and PLC‑based controllers, as well as troubleshooting diverse motor types used in chiller applications. The candidate must conduct power quality analysis using power analyzers, generate detailed reports, and interpret predictive maintenance data such as vibration, oil analysis, thermography, and eddy‑current testing. Providing frontline engineer support through calls, emails, Teams, and on‑site visits, the role includes creating checklists, SOPs, critical spare lists, and delivering technical and operational training to service teams and customers. Additional responsibilities involve reading and interpreting electrical schematics for chiller plants, understanding Building Automation System (BAS) outputs, and using tools like Modscan for diagnostics. • Perform preventive maintenance and troubleshoot AHUs, FCUs, cooling towers, water pumps, and EC fans. • Diagnose and test power electronic components (diodes, SCRs, IGBTs, capacitors, inductors) and size cables per circuit‑breaker settings. • Conduct root‑cause analysis of electronic failures and identify defective components at the PCB level. • Troubleshoot various motor types and program/debug microcontroller‑based and PLC‑based controllers. • Service and troubleshoot VSD starters, including York D‑Drive, Vyper, Hyper, and Python drives, and manage harmonic filter issues. • Analyze refrigeration cycles using pressure‑enthalpy diagrams and psychrometry to resolve compressor, evaporator, and condenser problems. • Perform power quality analysis with power analyzers and generate detailed reports for customers. • Interpret predictive maintenance data (vibration, oil analysis, thermography, eddy‑current) to guide maintenance decisions. • Provide day‑to‑day technical support to frontline engineers via remote communication and on‑site intervention when needed. • Develop checklists, SOPs, critical spare lists, and deliver technical and operational training to service teams and customers. • Read and interpret electrical schematics for chiller plants and control panels. • Utilize BAS tools (Modscan, SC‑EQ) to diagnose system outputs and connect laptops for troubleshooting. • Ensure customer satisfaction by resolving issues promptly and maintaining reliable chiller performance.

  • power analysis
  • plc programming
  • vsd service
  • refrigeration analysis
  • predictive maintenance

What You Bring

The Technical Support role at Johnson Controls demands extensive expertise in HVAC, chiller, electrical, and control systems. The candidate will work with various York chiller models, handle multiple refrigerants, and perform commissioning, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting. Key HVAC knowledge includes air handling units, fan coil units, cooling towers, water pumps, and EC fans, enabling rapid resolution of critical issues with appropriate action plans. Electrical and electronics skills involve diagnosing power electronic components, understanding circuit‑breaker settings and cable sizing, conducting root‑cause analysis, and performing PCB‑level testing of multilayer boards. Proficiency with variable speed drive (VSD) starters is essential, covering York drive models such as D‑Drive, Vyper, Hyper, and Python, along with knowledge of harmonic filter functions and troubleshooting. A strong background in refrigeration cycle analysis, pressure‑enthalpy diagrams, psychrometry, and performance testing is needed to address issues with compressors, evaporators, and condensers. • Commission and service York chillers (YK, YVAA, YMC2, YZ) with refrigerants such as R‑22, R‑134a, R‑407, R‑123, R‑1233ZD, and R‑513A.
