About the Role

The Senior Linux Systems Administrator will support system administration for the Army Research Laboratory (ARL) high‑performance computers and contribute to the design of the ARL A2I2 building slated for delivery in 2024. The role involves advising on architectural trade‑offs, selecting open‑source tools, developing performance instrumentation, and serving as a subject‑matter expert for the HPC program. • Support system administration for ARL high‑performance computers. • Assist in design of ARL A2I2 building for 2024‑plus platforms. • Advise on architectural trade‑offs including NVIDIA Grace/Hopper, ARM, AMD, and new file systems. • Identify and evaluate open‑source software tools and stacks for specific and production platforms. • Develop and implement instrumentation to measure and visualize system and job performance. • Serve as subject‑matter expert for the HPC program’s research, development, and production environments.

What You Bring

Candidates must have extensive experience with diverse Linux operating systems, high‑performance computing, and Linux performance‑tuning tools. Familiarity with open‑source software stacks, the ability to collaborate with a broad team of system administrators, and awareness of emerging hardware such as NVIDIA Grace/Hopper, ARM, and AMD are essential. A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science or engineering (or equivalent experience) and at least eight years of relevant experience are required. Linux+ and Security+ certifications, as well as an active Top Secret security clearance, are mandatory. • Deep expertise in multiple Linux distributions and HPC environments. • Proficiency with Linux performance‑tuning and instrumentation tools. • Experience with open‑source software standards and stacks. • Ability to collaborate with a diverse team of system administrators. • Knowledge of emerging hardware and software capabilities. • Experience sustaining and supporting legacy HPC systems. • Skill in integrating new capabilities into existing HPC infrastructures. • Ability to standardize software stacks to reduce complexity and cost. • BS or MS in computer science, engineering, or equivalent experience. • Minimum 8 years of relevant Linux systems administration experience. • Linux+ and Security+ certifications (or equivalents). • Active Top Secret security clearance.
