About the Role
Key responsibilities include designing water and wastewater infrastructure using AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Navisworks, producing design documents and specifications, and preparing quantity and cost estimates. The role also involves collaborating with project teams, mentoring and supervising less‑experienced staff, liaising with project managers, maintaining client communications, ensuring compliance with Stantec’s quality and safety standards, managing risk, assisting with recruitment, and overseeing performance and career development of direct reports. • Design dams, reservoirs, pipelines, pump stations, and water/wastewater treatment plants using AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Navisworks. • Produce design documents, specifications, and drawings while recording engineering judgments. • Prepare quantity and cost estimates for project planning and construction phases. • Collaborate with project teams and seek guidance from senior members. • Mentor, support, and supervise less‑experienced staff. • Liaise with Project Managers and Technical Leads on timing, cost, and issue updates. • Maintain client communication and develop ongoing contacts. • Ensure work complies with Stantec’s Quality, Safety, and Environmental standards. • Identify and control project risks through proactive use of management systems. • Assist in recruiting staff and managing performance and development goals.

What You Bring
The role is for a driven Civil Drafter/Designer based in Sydney, working on career‑defining water infrastructure projects such as dams, reservoirs, pipelines, pump stations, and treatment plants. This position offers exposure to a significant workload and long‑term projects within Stantec’s Water Division. Successful candidates will hold a tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering or a relevant TAFE qualification, with at least eight to ten years of multidisciplinary mechanical, civil, and structural design drafting experience. A strong foundation in design software, as well as emerging management skills, is essential. Desired skills include well‑developed problem‑solving and negotiation abilities, high adaptability, competent technical writing, and proficiency in Civil 3D, AutoCAD, and Navisworks. Knowledge of Revit and Plant 3D is considered advantageous. • Hold a tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering or equivalent TAFE qualification. • Minimum 8–10 years experience in multidisciplinary mechanical, civil, and structural design drafting. • Strong technical knowledge of design and drawing‑management software. • Demonstrated management and leadership abilities. • Excellent problem‑solving and negotiation skills. • Highly adaptable with a proven ability to create unique solutions. • Proficient in technical writing. • Skilled in Civil 3D, AutoCAD, Navisworks; knowledge of Revit and Plant 3D beneficial.
