Local Transmission System Planning Engineer I
Engineers plan, design, analyze and support electric transmission systems and projects.

About the Role
The Engineer prepares engineering plans, designs, specifications, standards, cost estimates, system studies, and other evaluations. This role provides professional engineering service and support in the planning, construction, operation, maintenance, and analysis of PSE electric transmission facilities and assets, including knowledge of the interconnected transmission system and applicable NERC and FERC compliance requirements. The engineer interprets and applies existing guidelines and engineering principles, works on project teams to reinforce energy delivery or power generation systems, and supports emergency response operations when needed. • Perform studies and analyses to identify electric transmission system needs • Conduct complex power system modeling, simulation, and analysis using tools such as PowerWorld • Interpret codes, standards, and guidelines to develop infrastructure projects • Create and review cost estimates; conduct economic cost/benefit analysis for alternatives • Document project needs and solutions for technical and non‑technical audiences • Ensure compliance with NERC Reliability Standards and PSE’s Open Access Transmission Tariff • Support technical specifications for interconnection of resources under state jurisdiction • Perform studies for interconnection of large retail loads and generator interconnection requests • Coordinate with Integrated Resource Planning to incorporate renewable energy resources • Maintain and update internal planning criteria and guidelines • Share documentation to strengthen engineering workforce skills • Identify weaknesses in work and initiate corrective actions • Support emergency response and system restoration efforts • Coordinate work of engineering assistants, technicians, or contractors as needed

What You Bring
This job is considered “safety sensitive” as defined in RCW 49.44.240 and is subject to pre‑employment drug screening that includes testing for marijuana and its metabolites. Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical, mechanical, civil, or another appropriate engineering discipline, and entry‑level to three years of experience in engineering design, specification preparation, technical field work, or system studies. Other relevant non‑engineering experience may also be considered. Desired qualifications include possession of, or ability to acquire, an EIT certificate; knowledge of engineering economics and analysis; experience in project cost estimating or scheduling; and work or internship experience in utility engineering or related fields. • Bachelor of Science in electrical, mechanical, civil, or related engineering discipline • 0‑3 years experience in engineering design, specifications, field work, or system studies • Ability to obtain/EIT certification (desired) • Knowledge of engineering economics and analysis • Experience with project cost estimating or scheduling • Utility engineering or related internship experience (desired)
