About the Role
The manager partners with a project manager—who handles scope, schedule, budget, and client relationships—while leading the technical team, developing execution plans, assigning tasks, and ensuring quality through HDR’s Quality Management System. Additional responsibilities include mentoring staff, coordinating multiple concurrent projects across locations, advancing technical expertise through training, and contributing technical papers or presentations for industry conferences. • Partner with project manager to handle technical execution while PM manages scope, schedule, budget, and client relations • Develop and implement technical project execution plans • Assign tasks and provide technical guidance to project team members • Support scope, schedule, and budget through proposal development, WBS creation, risk mitigation, and change management • Hire, mentor, train, and supervise engineers, EITs, and designers • Conduct quality checks and reviews of deliverables per HDR QMS standards • Lead multiple projects concurrently using distributed teams • Collaborate with senior engineers to develop specialized technical expertise and attend training • Prepare technical papers or presentations showcasing HDR capabilities at conferences • Participate in project reviews as needed

What You Bring
HDR Engineering seeks a Substation Engineering Manager/Team Lead to join its nationally ranked Power Delivery practice. The role leverages extensive technical knowledge in high‑voltage substation design and construction to guide clients, projects, and multidisciplinary teams while supervising junior engineers, technicians, and support staff. • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering • Professional Engineering (PE) license • Design experience on high‑voltage switchyard and substation projects • Substation design experience with voltages of 230 kV and above • Knowledge of physical, electrical, civil, and structural design components • Previous consulting firm experience (desired) • Prior staff supervision experience (preferred) • Strong written and verbal communication skills • Familiarity with IEEE, ANSI, and related design standards • Proven ability to work cooperatively with diverse teams • Experience with industry‑standard design software • Ability to work independently and as part of a team • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience • Professional registration, license, or certification as required • Strong communication and listening skills • Ability to manage multiple assignments • Good leadership and organizational abilities
