About the Role
The role supports Xcel Energy's Commercial Operations group and provides hands‑on experience across Power Operations, Gas Supply, and Energy Scheduling. You will develop utility industry knowledge and acquire the skill sets needed to advance within the Commercial Operations team. Under supervision you will learn to coordinate the hourly energy balance between demand and supply, assist with dispatching generation facilities and purchasing power, and identify additional trading opportunities. You will also coordinate gas supply scheduling and nomination, help schedule physical energy purchases and sales, and expand your operational knowledge across all three operating companies. Once proficient, you will provide staffing coverage in any of these areas during high workload or staffing shortages. • Coordinate hourly energy balance between demand and supply under supervision. • Assist in dispatching generation facilities and purchasing power with economic considerations. • Identify and pursue open‑market trading opportunities to maximize system benefit. • Coordinate gas supply scheduling, nomination, and storage volumes. • Schedule physical energy purchases and sales with balancing areas and counterparties. • Provide staffing coverage across Power Operations, Gas Supply, and Energy Scheduling during high workload or shortages. • Apply analytical and mathematical skills to power system operations and gas logistics. • Work 12‑hour shifts with nights, weekends, and on‑call availability as required.

What You Bring
A Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or an analytically focused field is required, though six years of relevant experience may substitute. Working knowledge of power system operations, the energy industry, gas scheduling, or logistics is a plus. The role demands handling time‑pressured deadlines, 12‑hour shifts with nights and weekends, and on‑call availability for gas supply duties. • Pursue NERC certification to independently dispatch. • Obtain a Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, or an analytical field (or 6+ years relevant experience).
